01. Overview
An extension of your investigative team.
SIU teams often need more field coverage than in-house staff can provide, especially when referrals rise or a file requires work in another state. TJS Private Investigations supports special investigations units with surveillance, records research, locates, and statements, delivered to the standards your unit sets.
We understand the division of roles. TJS gathers and reports facts. Your unit evaluates them and decides what action, if any, is appropriate.
How SIU teams use outside support:
- Handling overflow when referral volume is high
- Covering field work far from in-house staff
- Surveillance on files with suspected misrepresentation
- Background and records research on involved parties
- Locating claimants, insureds, or witnesses
- Taking statements where appropriate
- Providing an independent investigator on sensitive files
Claims staff outside the SIU can request individual claims investigations directly.
02. Capabilities
The support your unit asks for.
Overflow Capacity
Take on assigned files or individual tasks when your caseload exceeds in-house resources.
Multi-State Field Work
Field assignments across the 29 states and Washington, DC that TJS serves.
Surveillance
Document observable activity in public settings on files where conduct is relevant to the questions raised.
Records Research and Locates
Research available records on involved parties and identify current addresses. Related work is described on our fraud investigations page.
Statements
Where appropriate and with consent, obtain statements and document them according to your unit’s guidelines.
Formatted Case Reports
Prepare reports in the carrier’s required format, including headings, file references, and exhibit labels.
03. Our Investigators
Consistency on every file.
An SIU depends on consistency. Every report should follow the same structure, every exhibit should be labelled, and every update should arrive when expected. TJS builds those requirements into each assignment from the start.
With more than 17 years of investigative experience and 532+ cases closed, our Houston-based team knows SIU files may be reviewed by management, counsel, and outside authorities. We stay factual, cite sources, and leave conclusions to the unit.
04. What Clients Receive
Reports that fit your file.
Depending on the referral and your unit’s requirements, deliverables may include:
- Case reports in your required format and structure
- Status updates at agreed intervals
- Surveillance video and photographs with available date and time information
- Records research findings with source notes
- Located addresses and verification notes
- Statements and supporting documentation, where obtained
- A list of outstanding leads for your unit’s review
Our reports present facts and their sources. Determinations about fraud, referrals to authorities, or claim action are made by the carrier and its SIU, not by TJS.

07. Frequently Asked Questions
Questions SIU managers ask.
1. Can you follow our report template?
Yes. Send your template and guidelines at the outset, and we’ll prepare reports to match.
2. Can you take on overflow files?
Tell us the volume and timing you have in mind. We’ll confirm what we can take on before files are assigned, so expectations are clear on both sides.
3. Which states do you cover?
TJS serves 29 states and Washington, DC. Share the file locations and see our service locations, and we’ll confirm coverage.
4. Does TJS decide whether a claim is fraudulent?
No. We report facts. The carrier and its SIU decide how to act on them, including whether a referral to authorities is warranted.
5. Can you work alongside our in-house investigators?
Yes. We can handle specific tasks, such as field surveillance or locates, while your staff manage other parts of the file.
