01. Overview
Separate what was claimed from what is true.
Fraud rarely announces itself. It shows up as an invoice that doesn’t match the work, a business that can’t be found where it says it operates, or a person whose story keeps shifting.
TJS Private Investigations handles fraud investigations for businesses and individuals from our Houston headquarters and across the states we serve. We research available records, compare statements against verifiable information, and document observable activity where lawful.
Our role is to establish facts. Whether those facts amount to fraud is a legal question for your attorney, a court, or law enforcement.
Situations where a fraud investigation can help:
- Suspicious vendor invoices or billing patterns
- Payments to companies you can’t verify
- Misrepresented qualifications, ownership, or history
- Questions about someone’s true identity
- Investment or business offers that don’t add up
- Suspicious claims or demands outside insurance matters
- Supporting counsel on a suspected fraud matter
For insurance-related concerns, see our claims investigations service.
02. Capabilities
Test the details behind the claim.
Vendor & Billing Reviews
Check whether a vendor exists as represented and compare billing with the records you hold.
Misrepresentation Research
Compare stated credentials, ownership, and history with available public and business records.
Identity Questions
Compare identifying details across available sources when a person’s identity is in doubt.
Business Verification
Research registrations, addresses, and affiliations to see whether a company is what it claims to be.
Lawful Surveillance
Document observable activity in public settings when it bears on the facts in question.
Factual Documentation
Organize findings so counsel or law enforcement can review them efficiently.
03. Our Investigators
Patient research. Careful conclusions.
Fraud matters often involve paperwork that looks legitimate at a glance. Our investigators slow down, check details against independent sources, and note where the information conflicts.
With more than 17 years of investigative experience, TJS knows the limits of this work. We use lawfully available sources, we don’t obtain bank or phone records without legal process, and we report what we found without overstating it.
04. What Clients Receive
A factual record, clearly organized.
Depending on the scope and the records available, your report may include:
- A summary of the concern and agreed scope
- Verified and unverified details, clearly separated
- Relevant business and public record findings
- Observations with dates, times, and locations
- A timeline of key events
- Source references for each finding
- Open questions that may need legal process
TJS documents facts. We do not make legal determinations, and the report is not a finding that fraud occurred.

07. Frequently Asked Questions
What people ask when something feels wrong.
1. Should I hire a private investigator or go to the police?
It depends on the situation, and the two aren’t exclusive. A documented, organized set of facts can help when you speak with your attorney or law enforcement.
2. Can you tell me whether I’ve been defrauded?
We can establish and document facts. Whether those facts are fraud in a legal sense is a question for your attorney or a court.
3. Can you get someone’s bank or phone records?
No. Those records require legal process. We work with lawfully available sources and can tell your attorney what may be worth requesting.
4. Do you investigate fraud against individuals?
Yes. We help individuals and families with concerns such as misrepresented business offers or questions about a person’s identity. Learn more about investigations for people.
5. What should I bring to the first conversation?
Any invoices, contracts, messages, names, and dates you have. Keep originals unaltered.
