Planning a Surveillance Assignment: What to Share Before Day One
Surveillance hours are only as good as the plan behind them. What to share with your investigator before day one, and why each detail matters.

Suspecting a partner is painful and lonely. Five honest questions to answer before hiring an investigator, so the work brings clarity rather than more doubt.
If you are reading this, you are probably carrying something heavy. Maybe it is a change in your partner’s routine, a phone that is never out of their hand, or a story that didn’t add up. Maybe you have asked and been told you are imagining things. Wanting to know the truth is not paranoia. It is a reasonable response to uncertainty.
Before you hire anyone, it helps to answer a few honest questions. They will make the investigation more focused, more affordable and more useful to you.
“Is he cheating?” is a big question. A more useful one is specific: “Where does she go on Tuesday evenings when she says she is at the gym?” or “Is he meeting the person from his phone?” A clear question lets an investigator plan the right hours and tells you when you have your answer.
There is no right answer here. Some people want to rebuild and need the truth to do it. Some are preparing for divorce. Some simply need to stop wondering. Thinking it through now helps you prepare for either outcome, including finding out that your fears were unfounded, which happens more often than people expect.
If divorce or custody may follow, speak with a family law attorney early. They can tell you whether evidence of an affair matters in your situation, and how. In Texas, it can be relevant in some cases, for example to how property is divided or where marital money was spent on someone else. Your attorney can also make sure evidence is gathered in a way that is useful to them.
Write down what has changed and when. Late nights, new passwords, unexplained expenses, sudden business trips. Dates and times are gold to an investigator because they tell us when to be ready. You don’t need to dig further than you already have; just record what you know.
Resist the urge to investigate on your own. Following your partner, putting a tracker on their car or secretly recording them can be dangerous, can be illegal, and can damage your position later. Let a licensed professional take that risk off your hands.
We listen first. We will tell you honestly whether an investigation is likely to answer your question and what it may cost before anything begins. If we go ahead, we work discreetly and report only what we observe, whether it confirms your fears or puts them to rest.
When you are ready, read more about our infidelity investigations or request a confidential consultation.
